Denny, Central Scotland
Don't get ripped off on your roof.
I'm Tommy, a slater with over 50 years on Scottish roofs, retired from the tools. I'll tell you what your roof really needs and what it should cost, and put you in touch with a slater I trust to do it.

How I can help
Check it before you pay
I'll come out and look at your roof, and go over the quote with you. I'll tell you straight:
- whether the work is really needed
- whether the price is fair
- what to ask the roofer before you agree
The right slater for the job
I know the good slaters in Central Scotland. I can put you in touch with one I trust:
- matched to the job, from a slipped slate to a new roof
- people whose work I know
- any introduction fee always disclosed
Warning signs of a rogue roofer
Most roofers are honest. But roofs are hard to check from the ground, and that makes them easy to oversell. Be careful if:
- They knock on your door saying they "noticed a problem" while passing.
- They want a decision today, or offer a discount if you sign now.
- They ask for cash, or a big payment up front.
- There is no written quote, or no proper address to find them at.
- The job grows once they are up there, and they will not show you photos.
- The price is far above what anyone else has quoted.
Not sure about a quote? Send it to me before you agree to anything.

About me
I'm Tommy Sherlock. I've spent over 50 years as a slater in Central Scotland, working on the traditional Scottish slate roofs this part of the country is full of.
I've stepped back from the tools now, but the knowledge doesn't retire. Because I don't do the work any more, my advice comes with no strings attached. I'll tell you if a job doesn't need doing, and if it does, what a fair price looks like and who I'd trust to do it.

Questions
Do you still do roofing work?
No. I've stepped back from the tools, which is why my advice is independent: I've no work to sell you.
How do you choose the slaters you recommend?
They are slaters I know personally and whose work I trust. I would only send you to someone I would be happy to have on my own roof.
Do the slaters pay you?
Sometimes I receive a fee for an introduction. I will always tell you when I do, and it never changes what I tell you about your roof.
Do you come out to see the roof?
Yes. A roof needs looking at properly, so I come out and see it for myself. If you already have photos, send them too.
What does it cost?
It depends on what you need. I will always tell you the price before anything is agreed.
Which areas do you cover?
Central Scotland, from my base in Denny: Falkirk, Stirling, Larbert, Bonnybridge, Grangemouth, Kilsyth, Cumbernauld, Alloa and the towns around them.
